Badlands, OR 16 Jan 2016 (day 2 of 4)

Saturday brought rain and snow so after an attempt to snowshoe at Newberry Volcanic Monument, we drove east to the Badlands. We had some rain at first then it cleared up. We did two hikes: the first one was on the Dry River Trail where we hiked the dry river canyon from the eastern end to the western end and resumed our trek back to the car via the Dry River Trail. There are petroglyphs on the cave walls somewhere but we didn't see them. The walls of the canyon are 40ft high.
After hiking there, we drove to the Flatiron trailhead because we were running out of daylight. We hiked there on a 6 mi out and back trail.
Dry River Map - we made the detour because we took a left at the wrong "three boulders" Sullivan talked about in his book
3.3 mi 132 ft gain
Flatiron trail map (ignore the driving)
6 mi 300 ft gain

we saw three upturned cars driving towards Bend
