Dome Rock from Detroit Lake 3 July 2014

Dome Rock is pretty easily accessed by a forest road.  From there it is only a 5 mile hike with 1550 ft gain.  But we chose the hard way - a 10.6 mile hike with 3270 ft gain.  It was a relentless up hill hike through forest and old clearcuts with occasional views of the surrounding hills to encourage continuing.  The summit is a rocky flower encrusted garden of all the usual flowers, cliff penstemon, stonecrop, lupine, cats ears, and asters.  We enjoyed 360 degree views of the mountains from Mt Hood to the Three Sisters and everything in between.  Beautiful day with my daughter!
