Jean and I hiked to Jefferson Park on a pretty warm Sept day. It was supposed to be in the 90's in Salem. We started out early - at the trailhead at 9am. Amazingly there were not that many cars in the lot - I didn't count, but I think there were fewer than 10. Jean says her new revised Sullivan book claims the hike is 11+ miles. We did the entire hike in 6.5 hours stopping only for photos and lunch. It was such a beautiful day - lots of flowers in the meadows and solitude. We saw some backpackers on their way out, and as we headed out, several groups were making their way up, sweating in the heat.
We took what we thought was a loop around the little lakes but after seeing Scout lake we ended up back on the PCT. But oh well, we had not been on that trail before so that didn't matter. I practiced the pan technique Eric showed me how to do on the Obsidian hike. Still need to refine the technique but the pans did work out better. Less overlap but now I am tipping down on the right!
We want to do this hike again in Oct when those Huckleberries and Vine Maples have started turning red and yellow.
